Apartment Tower Construction Frenzy Hits Atlanta

We may be just barely getting over the Great Recession, but over 3300 luxury apartments are coming to Buckhead.

Post Properties and Cooper Carry Architects just announced their plan to build a 19 story luxury apartment tower near Phipps Plaza in Buckhead.  The $76 million, 340 unit tower will be phase II to the Post Alexander apartments.

The thing is, that is on top of the 3000 luxury apartments already planned and under construction for Buckhead in several 10, 19, and 26 story towers.

If you haven’t been to Buckhead recently, this is before the rise of the luxury apartment towers.

Similarly, Midtown Atlanta has just opened it’s newest luxury apartment tower: 77 12th St at 24 floors.

100 6th St and the SkyHouse, opening soon will both be 23 stories.  I could go on and on, but one of the great things Midtown planners are encouraging- and getting- is street level retail, giving a sense of human scale.  Similar to SkyHouse, 100 6th Street

will have a “house” on the 23rd floor 230 feet above street level complete with a pool, lounges and fire pit.  The new, shiny skyscrapers are dynamic, but I’ll still miss the old Loca Luna restaurant and Armory bar which used to stand there.
