Developer Jamestown Properties with Atlanta architecture firm Green Street Properties has broken ground on a mixed-use development on Victory Drive, just west of Ardsley Park. Two historic structures built around 1898 for the Savannah Ice Company will be rehabilitated into upscale retail and restaurant space. A new four-story 114 unit apartment building, four-story parking garage, wide sidewalks and green spaces round out the LEED certified project.
The 19th century red brick building is planned to become an upscale restaurant with celebrity chef Hugh Acheson. He is a James Beard award winner for Best Chef Southeast and was named a Best Chef by Food & Wine Magazine. Hugh competed in Bravo’s Top Chef Masters, Season 3 and currently stars as a judge on Top Chef. He is also the mastermind behind Atlanta’s highly acclaimed Empire State South restaurant at 999 Peachtree Street.
This well designed project will be a huge asset to the dilapidated area, bringing people and families to the sidewalks. Also, Ardsley Park has long needed a great restaurant. Some Savannians complain about the building’s height. My concern is the design for the parking garage which will be highly visible from Bull Street adjacent to the railroad tracks.
