Architect and urban planner extraordinaire Peter Drey’ s beautiful new design to improve the aesthetics at the entrance of Lenox Road from Ga. 400, aptly named the “Buckhead Gateway” was approved by the Buckhead Community Improvement District. The design incorporates 48 foot tall colorfully LED lit and basket-woven columns, extensive landscaping and trees as well as modern hardscape architectural elements designed to protect pedestrians from stray cars. The design includes sound barrier walls in a basket weave pattern, which gradually becomes more airy to allow views. It also widens the bridge to allow for pedestrian traffic. The project needs to be approved by the Georgia DOT. Peter Drey has redesigned important Atlanta landmarks like Marietta Street and Emory Village streetscapes.
