Georgia State Capitol is Coming Out

Long hidden by parking decks, adjacent buildings, and a historic church, the beautiful neoclassical Capitol of the State of Georgia is coming out of hiding.

The parking deck at the structure’s southeast face has been demolished and a new plaza will be constructed to give the 1889 Capitol the front yard which has for many years been lacking.  Hopefully, a portion of the I-75/85 Connector will be capped at a future date for additional space and to connect the important structure to the neighborhood.

According to Atlanta Business Chronicle, The Georgia Building Authority has hired Stevens & Wilkinson to design the new Liberty Plaza which will be large enough to hold a crowd of 4500 people there for rallies or protests.
