HAPPY NEW YEAR.
And, in other news,
AIRPORT CITY
Coming in the future to HARTSFIELD-JACKSON ATLANTA INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT…
a glistening new hotel directly at the transportation /Marta heavy rail /Skytrain entrance. The Skytrain people mover already takes passengers to the Georgia International Conference Center, several hotels and restaurants at The Gateway Center, and the Airport Rental Car Center. The new plan is for the Skytrain to connect with new office development (shown above) on the way.
If the final construction is anything like the renderings, this would give the main entrance of the ATL a futuristic new look (below).
The Georgia International Conference Center, constructed in 2009, is the second largest convention complex in the state, after the Georgia World Congress Center, at Downtown Atlanta.
The dashed yellow outline in the map below shows the projected size of the new Airport City. In the center, is the Atlanta Airport.
A Georgia Tech study (below) shows latent demand for pedestrian improvements in Hapeville, a portion of the new Airport City. The green area is Aerotropolis/ Porche. The airport is the open space on the bottom left.
These massive art pieces are actually white, colored by computerized lighting.
The Marriott at Gateway Center
The Maynard H. Jackson Jr. International Terminal (below) opened in 2012.
Nearby, Porsche is building their North American Headquarters at the Aerotropolis Development underway.
Although this image is from years ago– much has been built since then– it shows the airport’s proximity to central Atlanta.
Do you know who’s the artist of that massive art piece shown in the photo above? Thx
